Awesome VPS Rentals

We go over Virtual Private Server Rentals and how awesome they are!

Awesome VPS Rentals
Grok Draws US a Nice Virtual Server Farm!

Companies Censor. Consider:

hotconfig.com from Google's eyes. (Not even on the first page.)

hotconfig.com from DuckDuckGo eyes. (Top Listing.)

Because of this we go out of our way to showcase the stuff that competes with them, and we look at the awesome VPS rental market!

A VPS is just that a 'Virtual Private Server.' You obtain a small virtual computer that shares resources on a real server, but it's price is much less than paying for the complete rental of 'the whole machine.'

  • The price savings can be significant!
  • By using docker you can then create small containers inside the VPS, like a box in a box in a box.. you get the idea.
  • Each docker container can host a website, a small database server (mysql) or a pretty much anything limited by your resources!
  • Docker can run reliably on a 1 GB RAM  / 1 Core vps with as little as a 20 GB hard drive and run 3-4 small containers. This is phenomenal!!
  • However! The big guys like to corral you back onto their services so you need to really dig around.  Some of the sites are hard to find, that's why we wrote this article for our own reference!
  • Sometimes some providers will oversubscribe you. This means they have a server with say 24 cores, but then rent out 48 virtual cores.  As long as nobody is too busy they get away with it. But when they do get busy, you end up with 0.5 cores while paying them for '1' core.  The result is crazy slow service.  We have used cloudfanatic, and they have been fantastic, so we shamelessly plug them.  We have never not rented small VPS's and not received what we payed for.  They at the time of this writing offer servers for $3/month!
  • Developing nations are slowly adding server rentals however it is slow (as is their infrastructure.)

Why would you rent this? What people often do not know is that Internet Service Providers do not give you real IP addresses but can quietly overload you invisibly.  You quickly find out their 'DMZ Router' doesn't do real DMZ, NAT is forced. NAT is 'Network Address Translation' and simply means that you cannot 'expose' any server to the internet! So in a nutshell you never have a true IP - cough Bell. So if you do want to make your own Word Press Site, your own Ghost Blog, your own online secure mysql, and you just cannot do it reliably  from home because of how your ISP is setup... So  any real proper internet access will need at least a small VPS fronting server.

vpspricetracker.com

We start with our absolutely best favorite - vpspricetracker.com. Companies like DigitalOcean, Google, Dell probably abhor these types of sites because it's pure raw listings of the 'black-book' value to rent servers.

  • Absolutely largest listing of VPS rentals.
  • Filters by size / disk / vcpu / country / price.

ServerHunter.com

  • These guys have  a really good listing of VPS rentals allowing you to filter on price, ram, location, service etc.
  • At this time you could get micro-vps rentals starting at the shocking low price of $0.80/month.  But you are talking really small servers
Server Hunter - Find a server

vpsbenchmarks.com

  • They used 'slotting' letting you pick from providers in a price range
Review and Compare VPS Servers
Real World Performance of VPS Cloud Servers
  • They do not really specify 'micro-servers' and start at the 2B range.
  • They don't really offer you filters other than price so they are a bit of a corraling outfit.

After this of course are single site listings, we are not going to really dwell too much into those simply because of how good of a listing that vpstracker.com has done!
